Prego Pizza

Last night we met our friends Leanne and Charley for dinner at Skipolini's Pizza in Walnut Creek. Leanne had told me about their "Prego Pizza" that legend has it helps induce labor. The pizza has thirteen different toppings and is pretty much like a loaded everything pizza.

About to devour the Prego Pizza and hopefully get this labor moving along!

Leanne and Charley opted for the Hawaiian pizza instead. I guess these newlyweds aren't quite ready for a baby! :)

The jury is still out but so far it seems to be more of a legend than reality for me. It was however a great opportunity to catch up with some good friends! I still have two pieces left from last night so you better believe that's what I'll be having for lunch today!

False Alarm

This past Thursday we had a false alarm. After having contractions all day that increased in frequency we ended up at the hospital to only be told to go back home and rest up after contractions ceased right about when they were hooking me up to the monitor. Talk about a kick in the pants! This baby is totally messing with us!

My parents ended up in SF for the weekend as they had jumped in the car as soon as they heard that things were happening. So we spent the weekend trying to get things moving again. I've been walking up our steep hill like a mad woman and doing anything else to try to get this baby out. Saturday we went to the San Francisco Street Food Festival which was super delicious. We had gone last year but didn't go early enough so it was really crowded and some of the booths had already run out of the most popular menu items. This time we knew better and were able to get quite a bit of food before all of the crowds showed up.
Afterwards we decided to take a hike in the Marin Headlands as it's a gorgeous hike with views of the ocean and the SF skyline and to hopefully get some contractions going again. Well by the time we got there the typical SF weather had rolled in and the warm sunny day ended up being windy and foggy. Nonetheless we had a great hike despite the fact that at the top we couldn't even see anything through the thick fog!
Despite the walking, hiking etc. this baby just doesn't seem to want to come out. Apparently I have made his current home a little too comfy! Since nothing seemed to be happening my parents headed back to Santa Barbara today to wait for the next call. Although no baby came it was really nice to get to spend some quality time with them before the baby's arrival.

Come on BBD, we are ready to be a family of four!

Waiting...

Okay baby, Barley and I are sitting patiently waiting for you to come!

Last Saturday (8/6/11) BBD reached full term at 37 weeks so now I guess we just sit and wait. I'm hoping for an arrival next Wednesday on the 17th since it will be a day after our 3 year anniversary and both my dad and I are born on the 17th. Jeff on the other hand thinks that he won't be showing up until the 30th! I don't think he realizes how huge and uncomfortable I will by then! For everyone's sake I hope he's wrong on this one!

The kitchen is getting really close to done. Painting is happening today and then its just some finish work on the trim and I think it will be complete. Here's what it looks like right now:
Hopefully soon we can post some before and after photos!

Baby Showers

BBD is one lucky little guy to be born into an amazing family and group of friends. He is already loved by so many people as evidenced by the two showers thrown in his honor!

The first shower was back in June given by Jeff's two sister's Heidi and Anna. The shower was at Jeff's parent's house in Santa Barbara and was a great mix of family and family friends from both sides of our two families. We are so lucky to have our parents live in the same town and to have such great roots in Santa Barbara. It was a great example of all of the amazing people that will be in BBD's life! Everyone was so generous and we were truly showered with gifts and good wishes!

A huge thank you to Heidi and Anna for throwing such a great shower. In true Dachenhaus fashion it was just wonderful with delicious food and tasty mimosas! Unfortunately I do not have any pictures from this shower because my mom is still learning to how to get pictures off of her camera. :( Hopefully she'll figure this out before BBD comes!

The second shower was back at the end of July in San Francisco and was given by my three amazing friends, Michelle, Leanne and Rhiannon. The theme was Cirque du Bebe and was at Michelle's gorgeous house in the Marina District.
The girls did an amazing job of decorating for the theme and making lots of tasty food!

It was so nice to sit and chat with all of my friends and everyone was so thoughtful and giving. What a lucky little man BBD is!

Thanks again to my amazing hostesses and friends! Love you girls!

Progress

I'm happy to say we have been making some progress on the kitchen and the nursery. As I mentioned last time the kitchen cabinets were delivered and have been installed (at least all of the bases).
Unfortunately there was a backlog at the countertop place which meant that instead of taking 1 week for the stone production it would take 2-1/2 weeks. Also the countertops must be installed for the tile backsplash, electrician, plumber etc. to do anything so this has pushed back the kitchen completion from the end of July to the second week of August. Cross your fingers that there are no other hiccups!

On the nursery front we've also made some more progress. After Jeff and his dad painted the room blue I painted white clouds and added some Curious George decals that I had bought from Pottery Barn Kids. We also put the crib together and I hung the curtains. I'm not quite happy with the curtains so I'll need to fix or replace them but they'll do for now. We purchased a glider from Costco which I'm sure I will be spending lots of time in! So here's what it looks like for now.

Of course photos are deceiving, because if I were to take pictures of any other corner of the room you would see that there is still work to be done. We had ordered a maple dresser from an unfinished furniture store with the idea to stain and finish it to match the crib that Jeff's sister Anna had given to us as well as a pine bookshelf that was also unfinished. Jeff started on the bookshelf (which was supposed to be the easier of the two) and quickly discovered that the foggy San Francisco weather is not a good place for staining and finishing furniture. It has taken him weeks to just get the stain right. So we are now looking for a place to get the dresser done but places are telling us it will take 2-3 weeks. Lesson learned, leave it to the professionals!

It'll be interesting to see which happens first: the kitchen completion, nursery completion or BBD's arrival!
